WAYF in the Community

WAYF Soccer Academy believes strongly that all children should have the right to take part in constructive physical activity as part of their everyday development, generating positive attitudes and providing the opportunity to learn from outstanding role models.

The Academy's attitude in supporting this approach derives from the fact that two of our directors have BA degrees in Sports Development & Coaching. With their leadership and inspiration, we have developed a planned activity initiative for children. This has resulted in partnerships with the Greater Manchester Police and Youth Services in order to create 'The Friday Night Project', a positive activities programme to engage local children and help build community spirit.

The programme first started over a year ago with around 15 children turning up to play football in a pressure-free and fun environment. 'The Friday Night Project' has developed at a phenomenal rate and, currently, we regularly have 70-80 children playing football, relaxing and enjoying themselves in a safe, secure and monitored environment.

The attitude and commitment of all the children and staff involved has been truly excellent and extremely rewarding - in fact we have now extended the project to embrace other initiatives, such as the Duke Of Edinburgh Awards scheme and First Aid courses All those involved are truly excited with the progress of the programme, together with its plans to grow and develop.
